SR OUTPUT UP
According to Rubber Board the country’s synthetic rubber output rose 6 per cent in October, while consumption increased 14 per cent on higher demand from auto tyre makers.
Production in October was 8,404 tonnes compared with 7,926 tonnes a year ago, the data showed. However, output during April-October fell marginally to 58,307 tonnes.
Total consumption rose to 26,680 tonnes from 23,430 tonnes in October, while demand from the automotive tyre sector grew 22 per cent to 17,081 tonnes. Tyre makers account for more than 60 per cent of the domestic synthetic rubber consumption. Higher consumption led to higher imports, which rose 3 per cent to 17,505 tonnes during the period.
Global synthetic rubber output is likely to rise to 13.37 million tonnes in 2008 from 12.97 million tonnes projected in 2007, the International rubber Study Group said in December.
